About Us

I’m Terrance the Trailer Trasher. You can call me Terry.

I originally started this movie trailer review blog in June of 2010 with the motto: “You can’t judge a book by its cover, but you can judge a movie by its trailer.” The format was a Siskel & Ebert type of dual opinion on how much a trailer made me or Michael the Moviegoer want to see the advertised movie on a 4-@ rating scale. It was like reviewing movies before we saw them. We did nearly a hundred reviews in this format, which can still be found in the archives.

In December 2010, I changed the format. Now I’m reviewing movies before they even being shooting, using the same rating scale:

@@@@ = I’m there, opening night baby!
@@@    = Sure, I’ll probably see that.
@@       = I’ll wait for the DVD.
@          = You couldn’t pay me to see it.

These are ratings of my anticipation of actual movies in development or production that were recently announced in the Hollywood trades.

Is it fair to judge a movie before it’s been made? Of course it is. Here’s why:

Studio development executives make their snap decisions to greenlight a picture based on a quick pitch and the pedigree of the director, writer and stars attached, often without bothering to read the scripts or the books they option to turn into scripts. That’s the same information I’m basing my reactions on. The executives hope to make millions by choosing projects that people like me are willing to pay to see. If they would ask regular moviegoers before they commit millions of dollars to a project, like “testing” the premise instead of the finished film, maybe they wouldn’t end up wasting $100 million on flops like “How Do You Know.”

Feel free to leave comments on the reviews and let me know which movie ideas you do or don’t want to see make it to a theatre near you.

Thanks for the comment. Michael refuses to review this trailer because the movie already opened before we started this blog and that’s just the kind of person he is. LOL. I missed it in its very limited run. Very intriguing premise but not so great acting and it was shot on HD. I give it @@@ and hope to catch it on IFC one day. – Terry.

I understand. I only have reviewed 1 movie that released BEFORE I started a blog as well. You both are quite talented. I enjoy reading! Keep up the great work! Thanks for the reply! Happy Watching!
