Five Directors Snubbed by Oscar!

It wasn’t just Christopher Nolan who was ignored by the Academy for a Best Director nomination. It turns out five of the ten Best Picture nominees failed to secure a nod for their directors. That’s fully half of the directors whose films were good enough to be in the running for Best Picture but whose work as directors didn’t make the grade.

Let’s try to figure out just how this travesty of justice came to be.

WINTER’S BONE and THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT were both directed by women, so they were automatically disqualified. They gave the directing Oscar to a woman last year, so they don’t have to do it again for another 82 years. And at least one of these two women is a lesbian, for goodness sake. We all know how homophobic Hollywood is.

Then there’s TOY STORY 3, which is ineligible because it’s a cartoon. Everybody knows cartoons aren’t directed by anyone. They’re made by computers. What’s the Academy supposed to do, give the statuette to a machine?

2009’s Best Director winner Danny Boyle also got screwed this year. While 127 HOURS was nominated for Best Picture, Boyle himself was shut out of the directing category. In his case, it was his own fault. He let his lead actor have “final cut.”

That leaves the snubbed director of INCEPTION. Here’s why he was ignored. All the whining from his own damn fanboys about his Batman movie not getting nominated for Best Picture was what forced the Academy to expand the category to ten slots. Now that those crybabies got what they wanted and INCEPTION got its Best Picture nod, they still won’t shut up until every last category is expanded to as many slots as necessary to get whatever Chris Nolan puts out nominated for everything.

That’s right you Batman freaks, I’m talking to you. Quit your bitching and wait for the MTV Movie Awards where you geeks belong.

    Hahaha. Hysterical.

Why were 5 directors snubbed? Let’s do the math.

    10 Picture nominees – 5 director nominees = 5 “snubs”
