Movies that Belong in a Zoo

Believe it or not, there are four different movies coming soon that all have something to do with zoos!

WE BOUGHT A ZOOMatt Damon stars as a single father who moves his family to an estate that turns out to be a zoo. Based on the 2008 memoir of a man who spent his savings moving his family to a zoo in the English countryside. Adapted and directed by Cameron Crowe, scheduled for a December 2012 release.

@@ – Some of Crowe’s films I like a lot. Some of them bore me. The story as described has no conflict. I don’t find myself getting all that excited about the prospect of watching a family live in a zoo.

THE ZOOKEEPER’S WIFE – True story of Polish zookeepers who hid Jews in zoos during WWII. Based on a 2007 book.

@@ – I get it. The Holocaust was horrible. Jews suffered. I saw SCHINDLER’S LIST. I saw THE PIANIST. I saw LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. Why do we need to suffer through so many more views of this suffering? So we don’t forget? We have enough Holocaust movies to refer to and show to new generations that we’re not going to forget if we find new subjects to make movies about.

ALIEN ZOO – Warner Bros. family comedy described as JURASSIC PARK with aliens.

@@@ – Sounds a whole lot more like a movie, and a whole lot more fun, than the upcoming Cameron Crowe zoo picture. The JP comparison implies these aliens are not docile captives. Something will go awry. Something will happen.

THE ZOO KEEPER – A herd of talking zoo animals help zoo keeper Kevin James find true love. With the voices of Sylvester Stallone as a lion, Adam Sandler as a monkey, Jon Favreau as a bear, Cher as a giraffe and Rosario Dawson. (This film is completed and scheduled for a July 8 release.)

@ – If I could talk to the animals, I would urge them to fire their agents. The premise of this film does little for me.
