Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale

Terrance the Trailer Trasher – @@@

I love it! I don’t know if this is going to come out as cheesy as it looks or if it will be good cheese or bad cheese, but I applaud the originality. It looks like Santa Claus meets John Carpenter’s “The Thing.” It almost feels like a trailer parody, but since it really is a real movie, the clip definitely makes me curious to see if this early Christmas present can deliver.

Terry, your description is dead-on accurate, and that’s exactly what I love about this film’s possibilities. I immediately got “The Thing” and I also saw how this could easily be a trailer parody cooked up for YouTube by someone editing together Christmas and action movies. But the fact that they’re not hiding that this is a foreign-language film with subtitles is quite the nice surprise. I’m anxious to see this, but also skeptical as to how great it will actually be.

This early Christmas present opens December 3, 2010.

Mañana it’s the trailer for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s first feature without Guillermo Arriaga.
