Black Swan

Michael the Moviegoer – @@@@

Here’s hoping the movie is as perfect as this trailer. It doesn’t give away hardly any plot, but teases and teases with dazzling eye candy and bizarre visuals. I like how it states it’s from the director of “Requiem/Wrestler” with no mention of the unwatchable “The Fountain.” Natalie Portman looks luminous. A psychological thriller set in the world of ballet. Can you think of a more original concept? Has this concept been done yet? No. Every frame feels fresh. And I love how things really get interesting at the 1:50 mark with Portman’s red eyes and bird feathers being plucked from her skin. I simply can’t wait.

I’m interested, but not as excited as you are. It doesn’t look like a psychological thriller that would stand on its own as a psychological thriller that happens to have a ballet setting. It looks like Robert Altman’s awful ballet movie “The Company” made better by adding an actual story with some creepy psychological thriller elements. I didn’t like “The Fountain” OR “The Wrestler,” but I liked “Requiem” (and “Pi”) enough to hold out hope for Aronofsky. No matter what, at least the two lead actresses will be beautiful to watch even if the story fails to gel.

Michael’s Rebuttal:

Yes, let’s be hopeful that Aronofsky can rebound from the disastrous double-Oscar-nominated “The Wrestler.” (Just being sarcastic, of course.) I think you’re the only person I know who didn’t like “The Wrestler.”

“Black Swan” swims into theatres December 3, 2010.

See if we love the trailer for “I Love You Phillip Morris” tomorrow.
