White Material

Terrance the Trailer Trasher – @@

Isabelle Huppert usually does outstanding work, but everything about this trailer, from the color to the music to the acting, screams dull. First off, it doesn’t give me any sense of time or place. Is this a true story? Huppert is trying to run a coffee plantation in the midst of some political conflict. Why am I supposed to care? The trailer certainly isn’t giving me a reason.

Michael the Moviegoer – @@

I suppose the only reason to care is because Huppert is in it. That certainly guarantees a strong performance regardless of subject matter. But trying to grow coffee in the middle of some anonymous political conflict isn’t a subject matter that interests me much, and this trailer did nothing to change that for me.

You can have a cup of coffee and go see “White Material” beginning November 19, 2010.

Tomorrow we’ll look at the trailer that all the Oscar watchers are speaking about.
