Terrance the Trailer Trasher – @@@

Tony Scott re-teams with Denzel and a runaway train and they didn’t think to call it “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 – 2”? There’s a reason to give them a little credit. It is what it is. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a popcorn movie with forward momentum and big, loud crashes, and Tony Scott sure can deliver loud. There obviously won’t be any depth to the story, so if I feel like a little spectacle, I may as well see it on the big screen. Wouldn’t be worth the time to catch this train at home.

Michael the Moviegoer – @@@

This looks so much better than “Pelham.” In fact, it might be Tony Scott’s best film since “Top Gun.” It looks like he went back to traditional-style visuals instead of that crazy hand-held garbage he’s been giving us over the past decade. This looks exciting. A great popcorn movie. But the dialogue is pretty bad. And did I actually see a quick shot of someone trying to shoot the runaway train with a rifle? There’s bound to be wild implausible moments. But for a popcorn movie, you’re right, it is what it is.

Terrance’s Rebuttal:

You may have missed one or two Tony Scott films since Ronald Reagan was president, Michael. I thought the visual styles of “Man On Fire” and “Deja Vu” were very effective.

“Unstoppable” starts November 12, 2010.

Tomorrow we’ll review the trailer for the new film from the Oscar winning director of “Crash.”
