Due Date

Michael the Moviegoer – @@@

This looks immensely entertaining. Lots of very funny moments. If it’s from the same guy who gave us “The Hangover,” I am so there. The road-trip concept doesn’t seem very fresh, but the jokes do. Smart comedies like this are long overdue. Will definitely be checking it out.

Terrance the Trailer Trasher – @@

The style of the trailer is fresh. It doesn’t look like the typical comedy trailer where they try to squeeze in as many of the best jokes as they can. But the jokes are only kind of funny. It might have helped if I knew what predicament was forcing these two men together so I could get excited about seeing if they get out of it. As it is, I’m left scratching my head. I also don’t recall laughing at the way “The Hangover” was directed. If this was from the writers of “The Hangover,” I’d have more hope. Instead, it happens to actually be from the director of “Starsky & Hutch.” Hmmm.

Michael’s Rebuttal:

I loved the way “The Hangover” was directed. It had a cinematic quality not usually found in comedies. Especially in the way it was edited. Of course, I understand that it all starts with a script, and that was a big part of why it was funny. But the way the film was made is a big part of why it’s a better movie than most comedies. True, if the jokes in “Due Date” aren’t in the script, the look of the film won’t matter much. But I think this director is smart enough to know if the script is good before signing onto the project.

“Due Date” is due in theatres on November 5, 2010.

Come back tomorrow when we review the trailer for an unrated redo of a controversial slasher flick from the 70s.
