You Again

Terrance the Trailer Trasher – @@

Story comes off muddled in the trailer. It’s a wedding comedy. The bride is the old high school rival of the groom’s sister. Who cares? Not enough to hang a movie on. The bride’s mother is the old high school rival of the groom’s mother. Okay, cute twist. Still not feeling it. Stick in flavor of the day Betty White and end the trailer with her talking about “the Twitter.” Finally got me to laugh. But that will be it for this turkey. Kristen Bell does an okay job here but is not a big enough star yet to make people overlook the obvious lameness of the material.

Michael the Moviegoer – @@

How come Andy Warhol never predicted that Betty White would get a second 15 minutes? The fact that her “twitter” line gets the only laugh in this trailer for a comedy starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver should prove absolutely fatal for this film. Most of what we get here is obnoxious. Also, everyone’s faces look airbrushed and photoshopped. I’ve seen how that process works for still photographs. Didn’t know it was possible on a frame-by-frame basis. But now I see that it must be. Wouldn’t that qualify as animation?

Terry’s Rebuttal:

FWIW, Mr. Warhol was referring to people who are not legitimately famous having the opportunity to gain ephemeral fame. Ms. White has been a celebrated actress since 1939. That’s before even you were born. She won her first of seven Emmy awards in 1952 and a lifetime achievement award twenty years ago, in addition to a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Warhol phrase doesn’t apply.

“You Again” opens this Friday.

Come back tomorrow when review another thrilling preview!
