It’s Kind Of A Funny Story

Terrance the Trailer Trasher – @@@

Looks like a cute, smart, funny, if predictable quirky indie. Yet another spin on Holden Caulfield. The two male-bonding leads are not terribly appealing, but Emma Roberts brightens up the trailer when she shows up. Might be worth a look, but not expecting it to knock my socks off.

Michael the Moviegoer – @@

I’ll give you cute. But smart? Can’t tell from this trailer. Funny? The title says it best. It’ll probably be kind of funny. Looks like a cross between “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Crazy People.” The audience for this film won’t get your Holden Caulfield comment. And Emma Roberts doesn’t appear to be following in her aunt’s footsteps as an actress. Might be a fun movie to watch on an airplane.

Terry’s Rebuttal:

There you go again, assuming a classic novel like “Catcher In The Rye” is your personal secret because it’s from your era, even though it is still being taught in schools. This time, however, I really can’t figure out who you think the audience for this is. It’s clearly an art film. Its audience definitely reads, and probably even gets the Ronald Reagan reference in this rebuttal. But who in the world besides you remembers an obscure, insignificant dud like “Crazy People”?

The funny story gets told on September 24, 2010.

We’ll be back tomorrow with a review of the teaser and the trailer for “Buried,” a movie that supposedly takes place entirely in a coffin.
