The Town

Michael the Moviegoer – @

Are they kidding? From The Acclaimed Director Of “Gone Baby Gone”? But they don’t bother to tell us that Ben Affleck is that director. Even worse, From The Studio That Brought You “The Departed”? That’s supposed to be a selling point? I’m sure that studio had its share of duds. How stupid do they think people are? If Scorsese isn’t involved, they shouldn’t try to connect this with any of his other films. This trailer smacks of desperation. It’ll do, show and say anything just to sell tickets. That suggests they’re hiding a bad movie. And what a lame title! Someday soon I expect we’ll see a movie called “The Film.”

LOL. You make some funny points, Michael. However, it does starts out looking pretty cool. A heist movie. Weird masks. Spooky music. Didn’t know what I was in for. But for me it started to lose points when Affleck’s face appears. I have nothing against him, and I remember “Gone” being better than I expected after having almost no interest in seeing it, but now I don’t remember anything else about it and I suspect “The Town” might be equally watchably forgettable. And Affleck’s performance just smacks of phoniness here, and the second half of the trailer is a jumble of shots that stop telling me anything interesting about the movie. So maybe a rental.

Goes to town September 10, 2010.
