WTF? Why would Disney take an innocent fairy tale like “Rapunzel” and try to make it look like a Guy Ritchie movie? Compared to the beautifully 2D animated “The Princess and the Frog,” the computer animation here looks cheap and cheesy. The music completely doesn’t fit with the style of the art direction. Who do they think they’re fooling? This is their 50th animated feature. Sadly, it looks like it should go straight to video.

Straight-to-video is too good for this. It looks like it should be given away for free inside a Happy Meal. I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing the original “Rapunzel” story must be in the public domain, otherwise this would certainly get slapped with a lawsuit. How do you make the Princess Rapunzel a supporting character in her own movie? What will they think of next? Remaking “The Little Mermaid” as “The Little Stingray?” They could use the tag line “This one doesn’t sing, it stings!” I found this trailer, in fact the very idea of this film’s existence, to be borderline offensive and completely insulting. Disney has taken a classic fairytale and mangled it.

“Tangled” unravels November 24, 2010.

Coming up: Our review of the trailer for “Little Fockers,” the third movie in the Fockers series.
