The Last Airbender

Terrance the Trailer Trasher – @@

First of all, it was a mistake to place M. Night Shyamalan’s name in the trailer so prominently. His fans are either still expecting another “Sixth Sense,” which is clearly not this movie’s genre, or they have long since given up on him because every movie he’s made has gotten progressively suckier. It’s probably good for him to be trying something different. But this big screen version of a Nickelodeon cartoon series I’ve never seen doesn’t appeal to me at all. Ultimately all the narration is really telling me is that there’s some war in some world — and isn’t that cool? No. Looks like the movie is interested only in cool-looking fighting without bothering to put any meaning behind it.

Does M. Night Shyamalan still have any fans? He’s never delivered another “Sixth Sense.” Not even close. Fans of “The Sixth Sense” don’t watch Nickelodeon, so his name attached to this trailer is meaningless. For those of us who had to endure some of his other films like “The Happening” or “Lady In The Water,” this looks worse than those, if that’s even possible. Is there any dialogue in this movie? Or is it just some kind of weird martial arts ballet? I don’t have a clue what it’s about, and nothing in the trailer makes me wanna find out. It’s like “2012” merged with “Prince Of Persia.” Enough already. I’m so NOT going to be there. Did you catch the microsecond right at the end that says “based on the series Avatar: The Last Airbender”? Good thing they changed that title, huh?

Opens July 2, 2010.

UPDATE: We get to start avoiding this one day early. Release date changed to July 1.
